Street Photography In Crisis June 2017 #1
A brief comment on the supposed Renaissance of Street Photography.
The problem with Street Photos is they have become circumscribed by:
- The ideas of Martin Parr style humor
- Extreme reliance on shadows for impact
- The isolation of subjects so the images take away any sense of mystery or movement for the eye
In addition much of street photography has become 'anti-documentary' There is little interest in societal interaction. Much of street photography is almost documentation of a street with a figure in it. There seems to be a fear for many in coming close to our subjects
Those who begin shooting on the street are often intimidated or fearful of exploitation or confrontation
What are the solutions? More on that later
